Girls Rugby Success again
2 wins from 2. It sounds like a fairy tale but in fact it is a reality. CFS Girls rugby under new ‘Head of skills and contact’ Miss Evans and myself took 11 excitable year 9 girls to Havant Rugby Club for an afternoon of coaching and matches. When they arrived they sprinted out onto the astro pitch with enthusiasm and warmed up like professionals with captain (Willow Skipsey) leading stretches.
As 3.45pm approached the excitement and tension built, by the time 3.50pm had arrived and no other teams had turned up I was desperately checking my emails to make sure I had the correct day. By 3.55pm Purbrook, Warblington and Oaklands had all arrived and everyone was warming up for the big match!
Tension was at fever pitch much like getting two balls on the lottery and waiting for the third to come in, and boy did it come in. CFS played against the Blue barbarians (Oaklands and Purbrook), starting off playing touch rugby to ease them into contact (much to dismay of our girls). The girls moved the ball brilliantly between each other and worked well, however it was obvious that they were desperate to move on to contact, Captain Skipsey rousing the troops with a rallying speech to get them ready for battle.
Throughout the whole game, our CFS girls did not hide from contact. Instead they went looking for it like bees to honey, even the girls that only joined us last week. Becca ‘Wolverine’ Evison came in with some shuddering hits. Millie Anas ghosting past the opposition like a cheetah hunting its prey, scoring two of the four magnificent tries with Maddie Kilvington scoring the winning try making the final score 20-0 to CFS!
Fantastic work girls......
