Gold for Team GB Gymnast Rochelle
At CFS we regularly recount the sporting accomplishments of our pupil teams as they achieve success in their sporting endeavours through their sheer hard work, determination and ability to work in a team. This week in our staff team we have seen this, too, but unbelievably at an international level. For those of you who don't know, Rochelle Oxley, our Head of Year 7, is a gymnast for Team GB, taking part in 'Team Gym', which consists of a team of gymnasts performing on three pieces of apparatus: floor, trampette and a tumbling track. This past weekend Rochelle and her team flew out to Italy to compete in the Mid European Gymnastics Competition against eight other teams from across Europe. Not only was Rochelle selected for the GB Team from her gym at Portsmouth School of Gymnastics, but on the floor, Rochelle took the lead and was front and centre for the conclusion of the routine, clearly leading the way from within the team and can be seen constantly supporting others as we all know she does in school for staff and pupils alike. Rochelle has been part of Team GB before and has proudly represented our country for the past few years but the elusive gold medal has always escaped Rochelle and the team at PSG... but not this year! The PSG team were victorious this weekend and secured the gold medal after success in all three disciplines, particularly impressing the judges with their tumbling.
If you'd like to watch Rochelle and her team in action, have a look at the YouTube link below. I have added the times of the performances for the Portsmouth GB team so that you can skip ahead to see them in action.
Floor routine: 12:55
Trampette: 29:24
Tumble: 46:24
It is an honour to have a GB athlete within our midst and she is incredibly humble, just carrying on with her day as if nothing had happened (whilst also sporting a particularly husky croaky voice!)
