Lest We Forget
On Friday morning The Right Honorable Nick Gibb who is the Government’s Minister of State at the Department for Education visited the school. He has been the Conservative MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton for over 20 years and has had a very active interest in the growth of the Free School.
He joined us for our Remembrance Service; took a tour of the school and met with some students who were keen to ask him questions about what concerns them in education. They were fantastic in the Q & A session asking questions about funding, mental health support, universities and constituency support. Our A-Level Government and Politics students also manged to secure themselves a visit to the Houses of Parliament.
We completed our installation above the secondary entrance on Thursday, in preparation for the Remembrance service and to honour this very poignant time of year. We have had some beautiful poppies made by students with some moving messages about the relatives that the poppies were honouring. A big thank you to all of those students who took part and also, I suspect, some very artistic and creative parents.
The service itself was very moving and as always our students were impeccable in their respect for those who died fighting for our freedom. Two Year 6 students and a Year 11 student laid the wreath whilst the CCF provided a guard of honour. We all got a bit wet, but it was worth it, to be part of a very moving service.
