National Holocaust Memorial Day
On Thursday Mrs Bentley, Mrs Stanley and Mr Rothwell had the pleasure of taking 40 chosen Year 9 pupils on a trip to mark Holocaust Memorial Day with the local charity Chichester Marks Holocaust Memorial Day. Pupils were initially treated to a private showing at New Park of the film 'One Life', an incredibly thought-provoking film about the true story of Sir Nicholas Winton following the remarkable story of a British stock-broker who saved 669 Jewish children at the outbreak of World War Two.
Once we had recovered from this and all dried our eyes (no more so than Mrs Bentley) pupils were then treated to a workshop by Cynara Davies on the importance of human rights and how young people can learn from events like the Holocaust and ensure that the world never sees a genocide like this again. The chair of this charity, Clare Apel, was highly impressed by the behaviour and engagement of all pupils involved on this trip. There has been much speculation in the news recently that the Holocaust is being forgotten. To quote the survivor, Mala Tribich, who survived both Ravensbrück and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps, “What can I say, we are all hoping for a better world but we need to contribute to it and make sure that our young people get the right education.”
We feel very proud of our pupils and proud of CFS to proving this wrong.
