The Machines are back
Over the summer, I'd reflected on the contribution I make to the team and it was with a heavy heart that I realised that my brand of motivation was perhaps not producing the best results. It was time to turn professional!
I cast my net far and wide for a 'Director of Performance' and was delighted to be able to introduce him to the team on Thursday.
Step forward the National champion of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Mr Cyron Lewis (10km personal best, 34 minutes !!!) Well - the man made me look a fool as he addressed the Machines.
Had they thought about cadence (what?) had they been shown the bounce technique (errr?) and did they focus on the angle of lower to upper arm (embarrassing.)
No time for the noisiest stretch. No time for my cabin crew-inspired demo for tying shoe laces (there's always one to single out and run the first mile in a stockinged foot.)
No - they were off, following the new Messiah on a meticulously planned route (no more heads left, tails right.)
40 minutes later, as I reached the finish line, Cyron was ready to offer a succinct summary of each runner (had he really had time to shower and change?)
With some saying it had felt like one of their fastest runs, he asked for my records of times from previous sessions (awkward….)
And so - it's onwards and upwards with our first West Sussex event in a few weeks and, naturally, should you wish to be part of the winning team in next year’s Chichester Corporate Challenge (times are amalgamated) please join myself and Cyron. You probably just need to turn up to be fair.
The current generation of Machines are pictured below with our new D of P.
Just a couple were missing: Freddie C and Arthur R.
I look forward to celebrating further success after half term.
